On 18 August 2017, CEO of AEvice Health, Adrian Ang was invited to speak at the press conference held by SuomiFinland100 Singapore to discuss his team’s experience in Slush Finland last year. In the coming month of September, promising startups and organizations from around the world will visit Singapore to boost collaborations between Finnish and Singapore businesses during SWITCH week, where Slush Singapore will also take place for the second year running.
As the very first winner of Slush Singapore last year, AEvice Health was given the opportunity to visit Helsinki and participate in Slush Finland Competition. It is heartening to know that Finland has an extremely vibrant startup ecosystem for aspiring entrepreneurs. For example, Tekes (equivalent to our SPRING in Singapore) is a government agency that funds approximately 60% of innovations in Finland including health tech, gaming, deep tech and IOT. In fact, Tekes funded a total of 700 startups in 2015.
On the other hand, startups also receive strong support from the private sector such as FiBAN (Finnish Business Angel Network), who provides extensive support to startups by organizing private funding to scale their businesses further. Some of FiBAN members are actually entrepreneurs who have made their own exit and return as angel investors to support the ecosystem.
“In this area, Singapore shares a lot of similarity with Finland. There are plenty that we can learn from each other,” said Adrian Ang.
Finland will be turning 100 years old on 6 December 2017. We look forward to exploring collaboration opportunity in with Finnish companies in the near future.
